FEARFUL AVOIDANT EX
Will A Fearful Avoidant Ex Break No Contact? (Useful Guide)
This is a guide on the likelihood of your fearful avoidant ex breaking no contact within a few days, weeks, months or never.
Will a fearful avoidant ex break no contact if they initiated it? Yes, and no. It depends on on their subtype pattern, and 2) if they only leaned anxious or avoidant after the breakup.
This is a guide on the likelihood of your fearful avoidant breaking no contact within a few days, weeks, months or never.
1) Fearful avoidant ex leaned anxious in the relationship
Fearful avoidants who generally lean anxious and continue to lean anxious after the breakup are least likely to initiate no contact. They’re too anxious to want to lose contact and will only initiate no contact if they think it’ll make you miss them and come back or as a way of protesting the breakup. Most of the time they’ll continue contact and it’ll feel like you never broke up. They may also get triggered by fear of separation and engage in begging behaviours just like an anxiously attached ex.
They’ll initiate no contact to try to get you to miss them but also break no contact within a few days to weeks and reach out because it’s too painful for them to be cut off from someone they have feelings for and because of their fear of abandonment.
2) Fearful avoidant ex leaned anxious after the breakup
Fearful avoidant who generally lean avoidant but lean anxious after the breakup often do not initiate no contact immediately after the breakup because the breakup triggered their fear of abandonment. They may ask to be friends because they’re afraid of losing you. But as time goes on, the fear of losing you turns into fear of things not working out and them getting hurt. They slowly lean back to avoidant and initiate no contact, usually within a few days or weeks.
But if their fear of losing you is greater than their fear of things not working out, they’ll break no contact reach out, disappear for a while then reach out again. If on the other hand their fear of things not working out is greater than their of losing you, it’ll take months for them to break no contact if they break it at all.
3) Fearful avoidant ex leaned avoidant in the relationship
Fearful avoidants who generally lean avoidant and continue to lean avoidant after the breakup often behave just like dismissive avoidants after the breakup. They may want to be friends If they ask for space or want no contact, they will not break it. They don’t want to drag out the breakup and just want to be done with it and move on.
They very rarely reach out first, but may respond if you reach out. More often than not they will not respond for months and months but then out f nowhere they reach out.
4) Fearful avoidant ex leaned avoidant after the breakup
Fearful avoidant who generally lean anxious but lean avoidant after the breakup are in my experience the most interesting. Throughout the relationship they show signs of anxious attachment but then start pulling away and leaning avoidant before they breakup with you. They may ask for space or a break, then deactivate and turn a break into a breakup. Sometimes you don’t know if it’s an extended deactivation, or if you’ve been ghosted and broken up with. You only realize it’s a breakup when you ask or because they completely disappeared.
If you happen to go through the normal breakup process and they ask for no contact, fearful avoidants leaning avoidant after the breakup will very likely go through with the no contact period (they’ve asked for) and not break it. They’ll not break no contact even if they miss you or you reach out while they’re in no contact.
They may reach out months later, but if they leaned full dismissive, you may never hear from them again.
Other reasons why a fearful avoidant ex may or may not break no contact
It’s important to keep in mind that there are other factors other whether a fearful avoidant ex leans anxious or avoidant that influence their post breakup behaviour. The most obvious ones are:
- How long you were together
- How long a fearful avoidant had been thinking of breaking up
- If a fearful avoidant still has feelings for you or if romantic feelings are completely gone
- If your relationship dynamic was relatively good/healthy or bad/toxic
- If the breakup was peaceful, dramatic or hostile
- If they quickly rebound or take time to process the breakup and heal
And because fearful avoidants ruminate and go over and over the wrong that was done to them, they may not reach out at all or not respond to any attempts from you to re-open lines of communication. Fearful avoidants are also prone to depression which can cause them to withdraw deeper into themselves and not reach out or respond after an extended period of no contact.
