It’s been said, between laughter and play, men and woman start to fall in love.
I don’t know about the falling in love part, but I do know that laughter and playful teasing can most certainly make two people feel closer. And when two people have a history and inside jokes, things can move pretty quickly, as long as unpleasant and unhappy memories don’t show up too.
So, if you are wondering how to get your ex closer, this is one more tool in your toolkit that you might want to sharpen.
Laughter and playful teasing shows that you are relaxed and laid-back. This will help your ex to relax and drop his or her guard down. This is especially important in the initial stages of the process when contact and communications feels forced and cautious.
It’s important to remember that there is a difference between playful teasing that’s endearing and teasing that’s demeaning. If you are taunting someone to feel good about yourself or to try to create a power-play where you come across as the domineering or forceful one, it’s no longer playful teasing.
In another article, I advised against sending your ex jokes or links to humour without any emotionally connecting commentary. It’s like someone poking you and bursting into laughter, and you have no idea what is amusing them or who they are laughing at. Lame.
Playful teasing is meant to be fun for both people involved. It‘s also meant to be give-and-take. If you find yourself cracking all the jokes and your ex responds rather ‘coldly’, drop it immediately. But if you are being playful and your ex is playing along, even if he or she’s not bringing the jokes, use your wit and humour to create a sense of closeness.
