Masculine men are no longer the “heart throbs” according to a recent study of preferences of 4500 women from 30 different countries. The study conducted by researchers at the University of Aberdeen found that women now prefer feminine looking men over their more rugged counterparts because they no longer need to worry about the survival of the fittest or the quality of their offspring.
The women from Europe, America, South America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, aged between 16 and 40 and all heterosexual were shown two images of the same face side by side, but one picture was very subtly altered so it had more masculine traits, for example a bigger jaw and heavier and lower brow line, and the other was oppositely altered so it had more feminine traits.
The findings showed that women in wealthy western countries were more attracted to the image altered so it had more feminine traits, while women in poorer countries were more attracted to masculine looking faces.
The researchers came to the conclusion that there is a direct correlation between the quality of health care in a given country and the choice of men. The more improvements in health care in a given country, the more likely women would pick a feminine looking man.
Most women (68 per cent) from Sweden, which had the best health care, preferred feminine looking men while in contrast, the majority of women (55 per cent) from Brazil, which had the worst health care, preferred masculine men. Six out of 10 women from Britain which lies somewhere in the middle when it comes to health care, preferred feminine men to their rugged brawny type counterparts.
According to Dr Ben Jones who was also involved, the effect remained even with lots of other factors controlled, such as cross-cultural differences in wealth.
The findings are – part of ongoing University research into facial attractiveness and how people choose a mate – are published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

What a load of absolute nonsense!
Women like men vary in what they find attractive. Some women prefer masculine men (rugged men) while some women prefer feminine men (pretty boys).
Makes sense. I’m masculine looking, Canada has one of the best health care systems and women don’t find me attractive…haaaaahahahaa.
I read it somewhere that women that are using contraceptive pills vs women who are not are more attracted to feminine men. May be that explains why women in Sweden who have more access to the pill find feminine men more attractive compared to women in Brazil who have limited access to the pill. A majority of Brazilians are catholic. Just a thought…
Also take into consideration the environment in developing countries. It’s seen as more dangerous and having a masculine looking man means more chance his type will survive this environment. The machisto culture also impacts on this decision. In these countries – Latin America – there are more masculine looking men than feminine, due to the ethnic makeup.
Women are not as shallow as men, and it really comes down to personality traits.
Nothing to do with healthcare…
A survey 2009 survey in Malmo University in southern Sweden found that 31% of young Swedish women and 7% of young Swedish men said that they were most often sexually attracted to people of the opposite sex, but sometimes they were attracted to people of their own gender.
39% of young Swedish women and 8% of the young Swedish men reported having sexual fantasies about both genders. 13% of female acted on their same-sex fantasies and 3 percent of male respondents reporting that they have had sex with both men and women.
Conclusion: Swedish women prefer sex with women and men who look like women.
feminine look sucks, these so called metro-sexual guys pays too much attention to their appearance and rugged masculine guys are like ‘i have hell of alot to do thn starring myself in the stupid mirror’ my opinion to all ladies out there, would you like a guy spending 2 hours bathing, wearing make up, doing waxing every week, concealing spots, reading fashion magezines, like tight jeans, looking at himself wherever he go….. life with such a guy would be no less thn a worse nightmare. be what nature has endowed you with that is preferences and i am damn sure if u follow ur natural instict rather thn following fashion magezines you will realise the truth of sexual preference. its an honour to have masculine look for a men. i have beards and muschates because it shows to folks i am a men and not a boy nor a women.
